This may be the start of an epic baseball media empire, or this could be my one and only post, but I’m aiming for somewhere in between with this blog; I want to celebrate, complain, and have a discussion about the Twins, and if others find this page and find it interesting, the more the merrier! I also want to get better at articulating my thoughts more formally and professionally, and this seems like the perfect domain to do so.
That takes us to the current state of the Twins. I won’t go into grave detail about how much I detest the Pohlads, how the mixture of their ignorance and stubbornness, mixed with some level of ineptitude by the front office, has led to the loss of faith in the team’s future for thousands of Twins fans. Furthermore, I won’t discuss the deadline-that-shall-not-be-named that saw multiple beloved Twins get dealt around the league for mostly underwhelming returns. No, I find myself constantly (and probably delusionally) optimistic about this team; maybe the pitching carries the load, and we win 85 games; the division is weak, how hard could it be to win? Royce, Brooks Lee, and Trevor Larnach are primed for breakout seasons! I think this wishful thinking is what keeps me so obsessed with this team, and the surge of optimism I got after drinking way too much caffeine today is what led me to start this blog.
Since nothing noteworthy has happened today, and I don’t feel like going over the recent acquisitions of Victor Caratini and Taylor Rogers, I will talk about a couple of moves I think the Twins should make, and then my future blogs will likely be dedicated to notable news as it comes out (again, we’ll see).
First off, I think the Twins have held onto Trevor Larnach for way too long; he’s regressed offensively in a time where he should be entering his prime, his fielding still hasn’t improved, and he is not a speed threat in any way. While it is fair to assume some positive regression in 2026 might be in store for Larnach, the plethora of left-handed hitting outfielders in the system (with prospects like Emmanuel Rodriguez and Walker Jenkins on the doorstep of the majors) leaves little room for Larnach on the roster unless he makes major offensive leaps (which we have yet to see). I like Larnach and think there is a productive major league hitter in there, but I don’t know if the Twins should sit around and wait for this to happen; if we can get some value in a place that the Twins desperately need, what reason is there not to deal him?
That brings me to my next point. I will probably talk about the rotation and lineup next time, but the Twins’ most glaring hole on their roster still lies in their bullpen. After last year’s huge sell-off and the lack of production from any of the players filling open spots, the Twins’ bullpen is in dire need of some proven Major League talent. One team that could be of interest is the Colorado Rockies, with whom the Twins just traded once-promising infielder Edouard Julien and RHP Pierson Ohl. The Rockies look to still be a couple of years away from contending, and that is a perfect position to be in to trade a couple of controllable relievers away while they have value. Victor Vodnik is entering his age-26 season and has only gotten better thus far in his career. He features a hard Four-Seamer, with a Changeup-Slider-Cutter mix that plays well off of it. Not only does his stuff have overpowering potential, but he also produced a 54.5% groundball rate and a 3.02 ERA in 50.2 innings in 2025. He has the stuff and numbers you look for in a very successful closer, and the Twins have the prospect capital to make this deal happen. While there are several other names the Twins could target (though the free agent market is already thin), including Vodnik’s teammate, Seth Halvorsen, another reliever with high upside and an overpowering fastball.
This was not meant to be an exhaustive list of my 2026 hopes for the Twins; rather, I wanted to dip my toes in the water and see how it felt to jot down some of my thoughts, and while it was really enjoyable, my hands are telling me I should wrap this up and leave the rest of my opinions until next time.
I hope you enjoyed at least a sliver of this hodge-podge of information I have thrown in your face, but I also hope for my next entries to be more organized, informative, and cohesive. Until next time, Go Twins!
